Don't let your data fall into the wrong hands!
Whether or not your media fails there is personal identifiable information stored on it. When you delete a file from the computer the file is not immediately deleted. Rather a link or marker, if you will, is removed from the file that tells the computer where the file is located. The file remains intact on your media like a hard drive until it is overwritten with new data. This overwrite process could take days or months depending on the media size. Therefore it is possible for someone with the right knowledge to retrieve your data and use it for malicious intent. The types of files that attract attention to thief's are saved browser passwords, banking credentials, financial files from programs like Intuit, TurboTax, QuickBooks, and Quicken applications. Also, personal files often hold information such as credit card numbers, banking information, social security numbers, date of birth, and other personally identifiable information.
At Rescue Data Recovery we offer a DoD (U.S. Department of Defense) data wipe which writes miscellaneous data to your media essentially overwriting all previously stored data. The data is overwritten numerous times to ensure that your data is not recoverable. Once completed we'll verify that the data is not recoverable and if requested we'll ship the media back to you. So before you go and sell your media online be sure you're not also giving away your privacy. Please refer to our Services page for pricing.
Department of Defense (DoD) is the standard and accepted process adopted by the U.S. Department of Defense for securely wiping data from media such as hard drives and thumb drives. The process consists of writing randomized data to a storage device numerous times overwriting all previously stored data on the device. This method makes the recovery of data impossible using conventional recovery software.
